About Sue Ironmonger

Sue Ironmonger graduated with a BSc Honours Degree in Zoology from the University of Nottingham. She has worked in the field of animal welfare for most of her career, spending over fifteen years with the RSPCA - initially as an inspector for livestock markets, but for many years as a farm assessor for the RSPCA Freedom Food scheme, specialising in Free Range Poultry and Dairy Cattle. Since taking retirement from the RSPCA Sue has worked as a consultant advising some of the biggest free range egg producers in Britain, and in 2009 Sue decided to put her lifetime love of poultry to good effect by setting up Colehurst Laying Hens. Today Sue sells hens at the point of lay to small family customers as well as to bigger, commercial producers.

Sue is a former Council Member of Chester Zoo, was a founder member of the Fauna and Flora Preservation Society in the North of England, and used to broadcast regularly on wildlife issues.
